Six Flags Over Texas Seeks To Set Records For New Rollercoaster

Six Flags Over Texas, the original Six Flags theme park, opened in Arlington, Texas, in 1961. A wealthy real estate developer decided his home state of Texas needed an amusement park after visiting Disneyland in California. The name refers to the six nations that, at one point, ruled over Texas: Spain, Mexico, France, the Confederate States of America, the Republic of Texas and the United States of America. Almost 65 years later, Six Flags Over Texas is an important part of the DFW Metroplex.

Six Flags today is known for fun thrill rides, it’s Fright Fest festivities during the fall months and Holiday in the Park during the Christmas season. With rides suitable for all ages and season passes that make a trip to Six Flags affordable, Six Flags is a favorite spot for family-friendly fun in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. And, in 2026, it is debuting a recording-setting rollercoaster that will catapult it into the international spotlight.

What is Tormenta: Rampaging Run?

Tormenta is a record-breaking steel rollercoaster being built in the Spain and Mexico sections of Six Flags Over Texas. It will open sometime in 2026. It will be the longest, fastest, tallest and first-and-only giga dive coaster in the world.

What records will Tormenta break?

Tormenta will break six world records. It will be the tallest dive coaster at 309 feet and will have the highest 95 degree beyond-vertical dive at 285 feet. It will be the fastest dive coaster at 87 miles per hour and have the highest Immelmann Inversion at 218 feet. It will have the tallest vertical coaster loop at 179 feet and be the longest dive coaster at 4,199 feet. To say this coaster will be wild is an understatement!

Who will be able to ride Tormenta?

Tormenta will be open to Six Flags guests 48 inches and taller (with a maximum height allowance of 76 inches). ADA information is available on the Six Flags website. Each coaster car will seat 8 riders across and contain 3 rows, accommodating 24 riders per ride.

Thrillerseekers, rollercoaster enthusiasts and amusement park junkies around the world: the countdown to Tormenta has begun!
