- The parade. Kick off the rodeo in style when you head to downtown Houston to check out the festive celebration that marks the beginning of rodeo season in Houston. - Carnival. From thrill rides to family rides, the carnival at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo has something for everyone in your group. - World’s Championship BBQ Contest. Taking place the weekend before the rodeo officially kicks off, the BBQ contest is for those who have a passion for smoking meat.
