Originally built in 1842, Fort Washita initially served as the southernmost military post in the nation. During the Civil War it was occupied by Confederate forces and nearly decimated as they fled. It is now owned and operated by the Choctaw Nation as a place to come and learn about the history of the surrounding area. 
  • World’s Largest PeanutTravelers who love roadside oddities, rejoice! You can snap a photo next to the world’s largest peanut. Cool! This statue, made of aluminum and weighing in at 50 pounds, is dedicated to the farmers and growers in the area as a tribute to their contributions to Durant’s economic growth and success. It was originally dedicated in 1974. 
  • Magnolia Mile Art AlleySituated in downtown Durant, Magnolia Mile Art Alley is an Instagram-worthy spot that is free to soak in and enjoy. Admire work from local artists as you stroll through this picturesque alleyway. The art changes regularly so check back frequently as new photo opps are always popping up! 
  • Three Valley MuseumThis non-profit museum in Durant was opened in 1976 and showcases the diverse history of the Durant area. Step back 100 or so years to the turn of the 20th Century as you explore the small town area on the second floor that shows visitors what Oklahoma was like more than a century ago. Kids and adults alike will enjoy exploring this and other offerings at the museum that has artifacts that date all the way back to 1873. 
  • Lake TexomaIf lake life is calling your name, you’ll love Durant! Located just east of Lake Texoma, Durant offers you easy access to this large lake that has tons to do. Visitors can boat, fish, swim, hike and more as they enjoy the Oklahoma wilderness. One of the largest reservoirs in the United States, Lake Texoma is a spot where visitors can relax and enjoy Mother Nature at her finest.
