Enjoy Fall Foliage in Texas

Fall in Texas is usually an abbreviated season, much shorter than states in the northern half of the US. Truly cool weather doesn’t usually arrive (and stick around) until around Halloween, and the season often bleeds rather quickly into winter. But, for a few glorious weeks in November and early December, fall greets Texans with crisp air, stunning colors and sunshine that makes people want to get outdoors and enjoy Mother Nature.

If you’re dying to get outdoors and soak up the sunshine before the winter air settles in, Garner State Park in Concan, Texas, is just the place. Warmer during the day and cooler at night, Garner State Park offers up both challenging and easy-going hikes for outdoorsmen of all types as well as gorgeous views from some of its higher peaks. Open and welcoming to all, the park is a perfect spot to connect with nature all year, but is especially gorgeous in the fall. If you’re looking for a Texas getaway this fall with views you have to see to believe, check out these enjoyable hikes at Garner State Park.

Perfect hikes to enjoy this fall at Garner State Park

  • Old Baldy Trail- Easily the most popular hike at the park, Old Mount Baldy Trail is only about half a mile long, but it is a difficult hike. Plan about an hour to get to the top and an hour to get back down. Hikers who make the trek will find the view of the Frio River from the top well worth the journey.
  • Frio Canyon Trail- Those looking for a less-challenging hike will enjoy the Frio Canyon Trail, which is about three miles long. You’ll be able to admire the mountains in the backdrop from all vantage points and can take your time and truly enjoy nature surrounding you.
  • Crystal Cave Trail- This hike is another challenging one where hiking shoes are fairly necessary. This tough trail comes with rewards, though, including a great view of Mount Baldy as well as some of the park’s natural wonders. Explore Crystal Cave during your hike for a spectacular look at the wonder of Mother Nature.
  • Old Entrance Road- Old Entrance Road is the only other “easy” hike at Garner State Park. It is great to enjoy with kids or those who need extra time and care while hiking. Be sure and enjoy the scenery and keep an eye out for birds and wildlife. Mother Nature is beautiful like that!
