Spring Fun in the Texas Panhandle

Spring has arrived in Amarillo. Sure, April 2025 may have broken a record for most snow fallen with an accumulated 2.2 inches of snow (the previous record was set in 1895!), but winter 2025 is (probably!) now one for the memory books and historical records. Spring has arrived, which means it’s time to get outdoors and splash in a few mudpuddles, making priceless memories in the process. In West Texas in Amarillo, known for the Cadillac Ranch display along I-40 and the famous Big Texan Steakhouse, is beautiful in spring. The average daily temperature is in the high 60s and low 70s, meaning visitors can leave their heavy jackets and cooling towels alike at home.   • Feel like a kid again at the Wonderland Amusement Park. From roller coasters and thrill rides to mini golf and classic rides, Wonderland Amusement Park has something for everybody. Open through Labor Day, Wonderland is affordable fun that will get everybody outdoors and make for fun memories.
  • Head to Lake Meredith for unbeatable fun this spring. Visitors to this recreation area about 40 miles northeast of Amarillo can enjoy Mother Nature by hiking, hunting, boating and more. The beautiful scenery of this natural area will leave you wanting to visit again and again. 
  • Take in the beautiful and serene surroundings at the Amarillo Botanical Gardens. For less than $10 per person, you can see what’s in bloom this spring at the botanic gardens, a spot that has welcomed visitors since 1968. From roses to daffodils and everything in between, you’re sure to enjoy the sights, sounds and smells of this peaceful place. 
  • Walk on the wild side at the Amarillo Zoo. More than 120 animals from 70 different species call the Amarillo Zoo home, and you can observe them when you stroll the zoo. First opened in 1955, the Amarillo Zoo is a spot that has educated and entertained generations of animal lovers. 
  • Explore the natural beauty of the greater Amarillo area at Wildcat Bluff Discovery Center. This expansive reserve, located just 3 miles off I-40, boasts beautiful flora, fauna and geology that can be enjoyed by all. Visitors can explore more than seven miles of trails by hiking through the breathtaking landscape at their leisure.
