Especially if they are local spots with great baristas who make a mean latte (or cup of tea or whatever suits your fancy!). San Antonio is the perfect spot to find a great cup of coffee in various spots throughout the city. Local coffee shops are in abundance, each serving up an experience and ambiance unique to its location in addition to a caffeine buzz. Whether you want to head to a coffee shop to meet a friend, to people watch, to work or for any other reason, you’ll be glad you supported one of these local spots. Must-visit local coffee shops in San Antonio

  • Soap– Newly opened in San Antonio, Soap is a combination laundromat and coffee shop owned by one of the founding members of The Chicks, Emily Strayer. Guests can use the top of the line washers and dryers to clean everything from unmentionables to comforters and relax with a good cup of joe while their goods dry. Only in Texas!
  • Vela Coffee– Located in the heart of downtown San Antonio, Vela Coffee serves up an exceptional cuppa in a light-filled space perfect for reading, chatting or working. This spot also serves up croissants that will knock your socks off and has an atmosphere so welcoming you’ll want to visit again and again. 
  • The Newstand– Open daily until 7 pm, the Newstand, located near the Pearl, is a relaxing spot for a great meal or hot drink and also has a shop in the back. You’ll love the friendly, talented baristas as well as absolutely every on the menu at this local joint. As a bonus, the Newstand caters if you ever need food for a party or event. 
  • What’s Brewing– This spot originally opened in 1979, making it San Antonio’s longest running coffee roaster. And for good reason! What’s Brewing makes a mean cup of coffee! Feel free to bring the whole fam along to experience this local shop- they have a myriad of pinball machines that everyone in your crew will love playing as they sip the (potentially) caffeinated beverage of their choice. 
  • Poetic Republic Coffee– If coffee, connections and poetry are up your alley, this is the spot for you. This welcoming spot seeks to unite members (and guests!) of the San Antonio community to come together over a great cup of coffee. Poetry readings happen frequently, and there is always a welcoming barista at Poetic Republic ready to make you a great cup of joe.
