Oktoberfest, or Wiesn as the Bavarians call it, is an annual event in Munich that involves carnival rides, delicious food and lots and lots of beer. Oktoberfest began in 1810 as a royal wedding celebration where the parade of horses was meant to be the main attraction. The event was later combined with a local agriculture event and it grew to eventually include food and drink. By the end of the 20th Century, the event grew into a two-week-long affair where approximately two million gallons of beer is consumed annually. The site even has holding cells on the property where the rowdiest of party-goers can be held if they don’t behave themselves! Because of its German heritage, Fredericksburg, Texas, has one of the most notable Oktoberfest celebrations in the Texas Hill Country. With live music, carnival rides and, of course, beer drinking, it promises a fun time for all. But it is hardly the only celebration of its type!
