It’s Bowl Time in Texas!

There is just something about Texas and football. They go to together like peanut butter and jelly. Maybe you’re a pro football fan, and you love (or love to hate!) the Dallas Cowboys or the Houston Texans. Maybe you’re partial to high school football, where you can watch hometown kids clamor for glory under the glare of Friday night lights. There is certainly something endlessly exciting about getting together every week to watch one team take on another in hopes of securing a win. If college football is more your speed, you’re in luck. Dallas/Fort Worth is the home to multiple Bowl games in the month of December where top college teams duke it out for a chance in the spotlight. Whether you cheer for your alma mater, a college in your hometown or state, or simply a team you like because you do, college football is a sport that draws a lot of fans. If you’re hoping to catch some live college football before the players go on break until August, you’ll want to book a weekend away in Dallas/Fort Worth.

College bowl games in Dallas/Fort Worth December 2023

  1. Scooter’s Coffee Frisco Bowl, Frisco, Texas. Tuesday, December 19. The University of Texas-San Antonio Roadrunners will take on the Marshall Herd in this mashup between the American Athletic Conference (AAC) and the Sunbelt Conference. The Roadrunners head into the game with an 8-4 record for the 2023 season while the Herd brings a 6-6 record to the table. Expect excitement in the north Dallas burbs as one of Texas’ own universities tries to defeat a team from West Virginia.
  2. Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl, Fort Worth, Texas. Saturday, December 23. Designed to honor all six branches of the US military, the Armed Forces Bowl, played at Texas Christian University’s Amon G. Carter Stadium in Fort Worth, is not exclusively reserved for military teams but often involves one. This year the matchup will feature the Air Force Academy and James Madison University from Virginia. May the best team win!
  3. Servpro First Responder Bowl, Dallas, Texas, Tuesday, December 26. Played at Southern Methodist University’s Gerald Ford Stadium in Dallas, the Servpro First Responder Bowl honors first responders who selflessly serve their communities. This year’s game features two Texas teams- the Texas State University Bobcats from San Marcos and the Rice University Owls from Houston. Hard to decide who to root for with two Texas teams going for the big prize but somebody has to win!
  4. Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic, Arlington, Texas, Friday, December 29. Considered one of the New Year’s Six, the Cotton Bowl is one of the biggest bowls in college football. The 2023 match involves the University of Missouri Tigers from the SEC, a team that unexpectedly had a fantastic regular season. The No. 9 Tigers will take on the No. 7 Ohio State Buckeyes from the Big Ten, a game that should prove exciting to watch on the same field that the Dallas Cowboys call home.

Other bowl games that will be played in Texas in 2023 include The TaxAct Texas Bowl in Houston, the Valero Alamo Bowl in San Antonio and the Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl in El Paso.
