Enjoy the Cold Weather Months on the Coast in Corpus Christi

The beach is an undeniably fun place to be in the summertime. Whether you like to swim or sunbathe, boat or chill in a floatie, you can enjoy wasting away the dog days of summer with the sun on your face and the smell of saltwater in the air. The beach and summertime definitely go hand-in-hand. But if you’ve never enjoyed the beach in colder weather, then you’re doing it wrong! Although it’s hard to catch a good tan in the wintertime (usually because it’s simply too chilly to leave so much skin exposed!), you can certainly enjoy a day at the beach nonetheless. From picnics and bonfires to bird-watching and shell-collecting, you can spend hours on the sand enjoying the cooler temperatures from Corpus Christi’s charming beaches during the wintertime. You just need to change your approach!

The Beaches of Corpus Christi

Did you know that Corpus Christi has more than 100 miles of sandy shoreline? Whether you like beaches with big waves for surfing or beaches with calmer waters so you can simply enjoy the water, Corpus Christi has a beach for you. Corpus Christi has seven different beaches along Texas’ Gulf Coast for you to dip your toes in: Padre Balli Park, North Packery Beach, Whitecap Beach, Mustang Island State Park, Padre Island National Seashore, North Beach and McGee Beach. Adventures await!

Four ways to enjoy Corpus Christi’s Beaches in colder weather

  1. Pack a picnic and enjoy time spent solo or with friends. It can be hard to enjoy food on the beach in the summer when it’s so hot, but colder weather provides a perfect opportunity to pack a thermos of soup and some crackers and take to the beach for a meal! Even better, grab some friends and make a bonfire and enjoy some smores together.
  2. Collect seashells for crafting and creating- or just because. It may be too chilly to submerge your whole body in the water in wintertime, but there is no harm in getting your toes wet! Grab a bag and walk along the water’s edge to collect seashells. You can use them for crafting or simply as décor in a vase or bowl. They also make great souvenirs from a trip to the coast! And who knows? You may just come across treasures beyond just seashells on your excursion…
  3. Get your sweat on and challenge some friends to a game of soccer on the beach. Or beach volleyball, if you have a net handy. And the list goes on! You can play cornhole, horseshoes, frisbee, throw the football around. Without the summer sun beating down on you, you might not even break a sweat! Plus the feeling of the sand between your toes will be amazing in the colder months.
  4. Go bird-watching. Did you know that Corpus Christi is considered America’s Birdiest City? What better spot to observe these beautiful creatures in their habitats than during a stroll along the coast? There are hundreds of books available on bird-watching that will enable you to determine the different species of birds you might see on your walk. Or you can simply photograph them on your phone and then research them later from your computer. Whatever method you use, you are sure to see some beautiful birds out enjoying the water and weather.
