Grab a Beer in San Antonio

Sometimes your travels call for a day when you simply don’t make any plans and go with the flow. Maybe you’ll check out a local flea market or museum or wander a populated city street lined with shops and diners. Or maybe you’ll want to grab a cold beer and spend the day relaxing and hanging out at a welcoming establishment popular with the locals. If your travels are steering you toward San Antonio, you’ll have no problem finding big city excitement and unique, local charm.

San Antonio is certainly a Texas city that needs no introduction. Home to the renowned Riverwalk as well as the Alamo, San Antonio is a great spot to visit when you want to learn about Texas history and submerge yourself in a wonderful cultural experience. Home to well-known attractions such as SeaWorld and Six Flags Fiesta Texas, San Antonio is a great spot to be a tourist. However, the city also offers up a number of local breweries where you can meet the locals and experience the city with a cold beer in your hand. If you are wanting a local brew and a laid-back afternoon, be sure to check out one of these fun breweries in the San Antonio area.

Five spots to grab a cold one in San Antonio

  • Künstler Brewing– This downtown San Antonio brewery and sports bar is German-inspired and Texas proud. Whether you want a light, crisp lager or a deep, rich stout, Künstler has something that will please your palate. Head to this brewery to watch a game, eat some great German food or just to connect with friends new and old.
  • Weathered Souls Brewing Co.- Grab a truly fresh brew at this local spot, where all of the beer’s ingredients are sourced in Texas. With two locations in the US, Weathered Souls is a brewery unlike its competitors because the owners won’t pay for advertising. They rely on word-of-mouth to spread the news about their tasty brews, so they know that every person who walks through the front door is there because someone else told them they shouldn’t miss it!
  • Roadmap Brewing– If you are looking for a place to meet people with interests similar to your own, this might be your spot! Roadmap Brewing hosts a Monday night run club, a Tuesday night bike ride, free yoga on Wednesday and trivia on Thursday. How fun does all of that sound? Oh, and did we mention they also happen to brew and sell fantastic beer? That too!
  • Longtab Brewery– Veteran-owned, this brewery serves up great food and drinks and supports the men and women who serve and have served in the US military through fundraisers and other activities. Join this brewery for themed food nights such as Mussels Monday and Taco Tuesday. This spot opened in 2020 and also features a merchandise shop and coffee shop.
  • Freetail Brewing Co.- Launched in 2008, Freetail Brewing Co. strives to capture the true, unique essence of San Antonio in each beer it brews. With unique brews that capture the seasons as well as the culture (see Oktoberfiesta), Longtab advertises itself as a place to go to hang with the locals. With two locations, you can see where the magic happens or go and grab a bite and a brew. You truly can’t go wrong either way!
