Texas Attractions: Historic Jefferson

Posted on: January 3rd, 2013 by admin No Comments

Every nook and corner of the great state of Texas is filled with delights. A place that emphatically illustrates the truth of this sentiment is Jefferson, a historic town containing a treasure trove of attractions, located amidst the tall pines of East Texas.

Take a ride in a horse-drawn carriage, cruise down the river in a steam-paddle boat or visit the antique shops lining streets that are paved with the original brick. Stop for an ice cream soda at City Drug Co., an establishment in continuous operation since 1953 that has an old fashioned soda fountain. Also, while downtown, don’t miss the fudge store, the Christmas store and an intriguing sounding shop entitled “Granny Had It.”

The attractions include several unique museums, one of which is called Scarlet O’Hardy’s Gone with the Wind Museum, a facility with a large collection of Old South memorabilia from this epic story. Other particularly interesting museums include one devoted to vintage cars and another to the area of measurement and time.

Plan your visit to this town by clicking on the Find a Park tool on TexasCampgounds.com.  Click on “Attractions” then click on “Jefferson.” It looks like the closest park is Buckwater Jack’s, which is only 13 miles away. Book your spot through our secure site.

Texas Attractions: Canton

Historic Canton, Texas has long been a place for visitors and locals to visit for the First Monday Trade Days. These always take place Thursday through Sunday before the first Monday of the month. The next trade days are coming up November 1-4.

The trade days started 150 years ago as a flea market and the monthly event has grown into 100 acres of shopping with vendors from across the country. Here you can find unique handmade items, art, clothing, jewelry, beauty products, collectables and plenty of delicious food.

When trade days aren’t going on there is still plenty to do in the area, especially for nature lovers, RVing across Texas or the U.S. Play golf at the Twin Lakes Course, see the critters at East Texas Gators & Wildlife Park, or go bass fishing on Lake Fork. There are also many delicious local restaurants and live music venues. So make sure you explore Canton area RV Resorts, like Mill Creek Ranch and Canton I-20!
