On February 2, Bandera will be the scene of some awfully big doings – the Cowboy Mardi Gras. While this event will have some similarities to the Louisiana version, it will bear a distinct Texas imprint.
The party will be an all-day affair, beginning at 9 a.m. with a gumbo cook-off. At noon, stake out a spot on Main St. to watch the Cowboy Mardi Gras Parade that has been called “the best small Mardi Gras west of Louisiana.” Aside from the procession of floats, you will see plenty of horses and cowboys.
Those who have been deemed the best gumbo cooks will be recognized with awards at 4 p.m., at which time the costume contest will begin. Concluding the event, the Twin Elm Rodeo will start at 8 p.m.
In addition to all the Mardi Gras festivities, don’t miss the Cowboy Capital Opry at 7 p.m. on February 5 at the Silver Sage Community Center. Adult tickets are $5 for this Grand Old Opry style of entertainment.
You can easily locate a park in this town and make reservations through our Find a Park page on TexasCampgrounds.com. Click on “City” and then select “Bandera.” Pioneer River Resort, Skyline Ranch RV Park or Farm Country RV Park would all be good choices.
